A filter press is a mechanical device that applies pressure to a material through a specialized filtration medium, allowing liquids to be separated and collected. It is a widely used solid–liquid separation equipment. First employed in chemical production in the early 18th century, it continues to be extensively utilized across industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, dyes, food processing, brewing, ceramics, and environmental protection.

  • Product Details
  • A filter press is a mechanical device that applies pressure to a material through a specialized filtration medium, allowing liquids to be separated and collected. It is a widely used piece of equipment for solid–liquid separation. First employed in chemical production in the early 18th century, it continues to be extensively utilized across industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, dyes, food processing, brewing, ceramics, and environmental protection.

    The filter plate offers stable performance, convenient operation, safety, and labor savings; the metal press cylinder is machined from seamless steel tubing, while the plastic‑steel filter plate is precision‑cast, providing resistance to high temperatures and pressures and ensuring long-lasting durability.

    Functionality

    It extracts the solids from the mixture, thereby achieving solid–liquid separation.

    Species Classification

    A. Classification by filtration method: chamber filter press, belt filter press, membrane filter press, and plate-and-frame filter press.

    B. Structural classification: cantilever filter press and belt filter press;

    C. Classification by pressing method: hydraulic clamping, manual jack clamping, and mechanical clamping;

    Scope of Application for Filter Presses

    Pharmaceuticals, chemicals, standard fasteners, pharmaceutical manufacturing, metallurgy, non-standard screws, dyes, food processing, brewing, ceramics, oil refining, wastewater treatment, and other environmentally friendly industries.

    The structure of a filter press consists of three parts.

    Folding frame

    The frame is the foundational component of a plate-and-frame filter press. At its two ends are the thrust plate and the pressure head, while the side beams connect these two elements. The side beams serve to support the filter plates, filter frames, and the pressure plate.

    Folding and pressing mechanism

    Manual clamping, mechanical clamping, hydraulic clamping.

    A. Manual clamping: The filter plates are pressed together by a screw-type mechanical jack that drives the pressure plate.

    B. Mechanical Clamping: The clamping mechanism consists of an electric motor (equipped with an advanced overload protector), a reducer, a gear pair, a lead screw, and a fixed nut.

    C. Hydraulic Clamping: The hydraulic clamping mechanism consists of a hydraulic power unit, a hydraulic cylinder, a piston, a piston rod, and a Haf‑Lan clamp that connects the piston rod to the clamping plate.

    Folding filtration mechanism

    The filtration assembly consists of filter plates, filter frames, filter cloth, and squeeze diaphragms. The filter plates are covered on both sides with filter cloth; when a squeeze diaphragm is required, a set of filter plates comprises a diaphragm plate and side plates. The diaphragm plate has rubber diaphragms laminated on both sides of its base, with filter cloth wrapped around the outer edges of the diaphragms, while the side plates are standard filter plates. Feed material enters each filtration chamber through the feed inlet on the thrust plate. Solid particles, whose particle size exceeds the pore size of the filtration medium (filter cloth), are retained within the chambers, while the filtrate flows out through the outlet ports at the bottom of the filter plates. When the filter cake needs to be further dewatered, in addition to diaphragm squeezing, compressed air or steam can be introduced via the wash ports; the resulting gas stream dislodges moisture from the filter cake, thereby reducing its moisture content.

    Dehydration Application

    1. As a well-established dewatering device, the filter press is widely used in the environmental protection sector and has become an essential piece of equipment for treating wastewater and sludge.

    2. Mechanical dewatering of sludge primarily removes capillary water between sludge particles. After conventional mechanical dewatering, the sludge typically has a moisture content of 65%–80% and appears as a sludge cake.

    3. In the past, mechanical dewatering equipment mainly included belt filter presses, plate-and-frame filter presses, and decanter centrifuges; today, chamber filter presses, vertical hydraulic filter presses, membrane filter presses, and high-pressure plate-and-frame filter presses are commonly used.

    4. When sludge is disposed of via landfill, dewatering significantly reduces the required landfill area and lowers transportation costs. During composting, sludge dewatering ensures smooth processing, as composting typically requires sludge with a low moisture content. If sludge is incinerated in a centralized facility, high‑efficiency dewatering can substantially cut thermal energy consumption and reduce the cost of treating hazardous constituents.
