Ultrafiltration equipment
Size:
Ultra-filtration (UF) is a membrane separation technology used to purify and separate solutions. An ultrafiltration system employs ultrafiltration membrane fibers as the filtration medium, with a pressure difference across the membrane serving as the driving force for solution separation. The ultrafiltration membrane permits only solvents (such as water molecules), inorganic salts, and small-molecule organic compounds to pass through, while retaining larger macromolecular substances—such as suspended solids, colloids, proteins, and microorganisms—thereby achieving purification or separation.

Ultrafiltration leverages the interception capacity of porous materials to remove particulate impurities of a certain size from water through physical sieving. Under pressure, small‑sized substances such as water, low‑molecular‑weight organics, and inorganic ions can pass through the micropores in the membrane wall to reach the other side, while larger particles—such as microorganisms, colloids, suspended solids, and high‑molecular‑weight organics—are retained by the membrane, thereby achieving separation of different components in the solution. This process operates at ambient temperature, involves no phase change, and generates no secondary pollution. Ultrafiltration direct‑drinking water systems use ultrafiltration membranes as their core technology to purify water, producing what is commonly referred to as mineral water.
Application areas of ultrafiltration equipment
◆ Mineral Water: In the production of mineral water, ultrafiltration technology is employed. During engineering design, based on the source‑water quality analysis report, the membrane pore size and type are carefully selected to tailor the ultrafiltration system accordingly.
◆Food: Ultrafiltration technology is increasingly being adopted in the production of dairy products, fruit juices, alcoholic beverages, and seasonings. Examples include separating proteins from whey and removing low‑molecular‑weight lactose and water; clarifying and sterilizing fruit juices; eliminating colored proteins, polysaccharides, and other colloidal impurities from alcoholic drinks; and decontaminating soy sauce and vinegar. Compared with conventional methods, these processes offer advantages such as cost‑effectiveness, reliability, and consistent product quality.
◆ Pharmaceuticals: In pharmaceutical and biochemical manufacturing, it is often necessary to separate and purify heat‑sensitive substances, and ultrafiltration technology demonstrates distinct advantages in this regard. Ultrafiltration is particularly well suited for the separation and concentration of bioactive compounds such as enzymes, viruses, nucleic acids, and specialized proteins. For drugs derived from animals and plants—such as alkaloids and hormones—the resulting extracts frequently contain macromolecules or solid particulates; in many cases, ultrafiltration can be employed to achieve effective separation, thereby enhancing product quality.
◆ Purified water and ultrapure water: preliminary purification of industrial water, RO pretreatment for the production of purified and ultrapure water, and final-stage treatment of purified and ultrapure water.
◆Environmental Protection: Advanced treatment of industrial wastewater, urban reclaimed water reuse systems, and the recovery of electrophoretic coatings and petroleum products.
◆ Fermentation: separation and purification of biochemical fermentation broths, concentration and purification of enzymes, and clarification filtration of sugars and xylitol.
