  • As the nation places greater emphasis on environmental protection and public awareness of environmental conditions continues to grow, wastewater discharge standards are becoming increasingly stringent. Wastewater from specialized medical outpatient clinics contains large quantities of pathogenic microorganisms and toxic substances; if not properly treated, it can pollute the surrounding environment. Therefore, whether a medical clinic’s wastewater treatment meets regulatory standards is a critical factor in determining whether the clinic can legally operate.

According to the “Discharge Standard for Water Pollutants from Medical Institutions,” wastewater discharged from medical outpatient facilities shall meet the following standards:

    1. Conduct three consecutive tests, each with a 500 mL sample; no enteric pathogenic bacteria or Mycobacterium tuberculosis shall be detected.

    2. The total coliform count shall not exceed 500 per liter.

    3. The total residual chlorine level is 4–5 mg/L.

    4. The contact time between wastewater and chlorine shall be no less than 1 hour.

All medical wastewater generated within the outpatient clinic must be conveyed via dedicated pipelines to a treatment tank for disinfection before discharge. The design and construction of the wastewater treatment tank must comply with the following requirements:

    1. It should be located away from the treatment and reception areas, designed in a more secluded setting.

    2. It is equipped with anti-corrosion and leak-proof facilities, typically constructed from 1-centimeter-thick high-strength melamine boards.

    3. Ensure effective treatment, safety, and durability.

    4. Easy to operate, convenient for disinfection and cleaning, and conducive to operator safety.

Based on the characteristics of limited usable space and low wastewater volumes in medical outpatient facilities, our company has designed a series of compact wastewater treatment systems. These systems employ a multi-stage filtration and disinfection process, offering advantages such as a small footprint, quiet operation, no secondary pollution, easy installation, simple maintenance, and reliable compliance with regulatory standards. They are now widely deployed in wastewater treatment projects at veterinary hospitals, medical clinics, laboratories, and other similar settings.

    Product Introduction:

The main pollutants in hospital wastewater from specialized outpatient clinics include: pathogens (such as parasite eggs, pathogenic bacteria, and viruses), organic matter, floating and suspended solids, and radioactive contaminants. Untreated raw wastewater can contain a total microbial count exceeding 10^8 colony‑forming units per milliliter. Hospital wastewater is complex in both its sources and composition, containing pathogenic microorganisms, toxic and harmful physicochemical pollutants, and radioactive contamination. It exhibits characteristics such as spatial contamination, acute transmission, and latent infection; if not properly treated, it can become a major pathway for the spread of infectious diseases and a serious source of environmental pollution.

    Process flow:

Anaerobic biochemical treatment — Aerobic biological contact oxidation — Secondary sedimentation — Chlorine dioxide contact disinfection — Discharge in compliance with standards

Emission Standards: To meet the emission standards, biochemical treatment equipment must be used, specifically an underground integrated medical wastewater treatment system.

The underground integrated domestic wastewater treatment facility is a complete set of sewage treatment equipment that centers on a biochemical treatment process combining anoxic and contact oxidation.

The characteristics of underground equipment are:

    1. High degree of integration, with various water treatment processes seamlessly combined into a single unit, achieving high removal efficiency.

    2. Thanks to its modular design, it boasts high space utilization, can be installed underground, and helps reduce capital investment while keeping operating costs low.

    3. All equipment is operated under microcomputer‑based automated control, ensuring convenient management and maintenance.

    4. The equipment operates with virtually no noise or odor, having no impact on the surrounding environment.

    5. A full range of equipment specifications is available, making design and selection convenient.

    6. Low cost and compact footprint; the underground integrated domestic and medical wastewater treatment unit is suitable for sites already equipped with septic tanks or sludge digestion tanks.

    7. The underground equipment exhibits high denitrification and dephosphorization efficiency with low sludge production.

Working principle of underground domestic wastewater treatment equipment: Domestic wastewater enters a septic tank or a hydrolysis‑equalization tank. The septic tank regulates the flow rate and stabilizes the water quality, ensuring consistent conditions for subsequent treatment. The conditioned wastewater is then pumped by a sewage pump to the primary sedimentation tank, where larger particles and some pollutants settle out.

The supernatant from the sedimentation process flows automatically into the contact oxidation tank for biological contact oxidation, removing and degrading organic matter in the wastewater. Following contact oxidation, a dissolved‑air flotation‑sedimentation tank further removes suspended solids and pollutants. After flotation‑sedimentation, the effluent is disinfected in a disinfection tank using a disinfectant prepared by a chlorine dioxide generator, and then discharged in compliance with regulatory standards. The excess sludge from the dissolved‑air flotation‑sedimentation tank is returned to the equalization tank, while the sludge from both the equalization tank and the contact oxidation tank is transferred to an anaerobic digestion tank for aerobic digestion, enabling the treated effluent to meet the GB 18466‑2005 hospital wastewater discharge standard and pass environmental protection acceptance.
