Sodium hypochlorite dosing unit

Size:

The sodium hypochlorite dosing system primarily comprises a chemical storage tank and a dosing metering pump. If the storage tank is not equipped with an agitator, liquid chemical agents can be directly fed into the system. The equipment requires no complex control signals; once the desired dosage is manually set, it can operate continuously and automatically.

  • I. Product Structural Configuration

The sodium hypochlorite dosing system primarily comprises a chemical storage tank and a dosing metering pump. If the storage tank is not equipped with an agitator, liquid chemical agents can be directly fed into the system. The equipment does not require complex control signals; once the operator sets the desired dosage, it can operate continuously and automatically.

      II. Equipment Features

The equipment features a simple structure and convenient operation, effectively addressing the issues of inaccurate dosing and cumbersome handling that previously plagued small-scale users who relied on manual addition.

      III. Operating Procedures

      1. Storage of raw materials: Place the purchased finished sodium hypochlorite solution next to the suction pipe, and insert the suction pipe into the solution.

      2. Open the inlet valve; the sodium hypochlorite solution will flow through (the ejector creates a negative pressure, drawing air out of the main unit), and the suction hose will draw the solution into the dosing unit’s storage tank.

      3. Monitor the liquid level in the level gauge. Once the sodium hypochlorite solution has filled the tank, close the inlet valve and remove the hose. Alternatively, you may pour the sodium hypochlorite solution directly into the dosing port (take precautions to prevent splashing).

      4. Adjustment of the metering pump:

      1) Open the vent valve counterclockwise; once the medicated solution begins to flow, tighten the fitting. At this point, the pump is ready for normal dosing.

      2) Adjust the metering pump’s frequency to the appropriate stroke rate. Turn the control box switch to the “Start” position and power on the unit.

      3) Select the appropriate setting on the metering pump according to the instruction manual, and manually adjust the frequency percentage knob based on the dosing output to calibrate the pump’s set frequency. The metering pump can automatically regulate the dosage in response to external flow signals, ensuring that the dosing rate meets the required specifications and adapts to changing water quality and flow conditions, thereby maintaining a consistent dosing level. To shut down, simply turn the control box switch to the “Stop” position.

      IV. Precautions

      1. When the equipment is not in use for an extended period, open the drain valve to completely empty any residual chemical solution from the system, then flush the equipment with clean water: immerse the bottom valve in clean water and run the metering pump for 20 minutes.

      2. Winter insulation: The equipment must be placed in a room equipped with heating facilities. The indoor temperature must not fall below 3. Regular cleaning: The bottom‑valve filter screen should be cleaned regularly to prevent particulate contaminants from clogging the piping.

      4. Monitor the dosing unit’s liquid level to prevent material shortages, avoid dry running of the metering pump, and protect the metering pump diaphragm from damage.

      V. Calculation of Sodium Hypochlorite Dosage

Install a sodium hypochlorite dosing system with a capacity of 100 g/h. This dosing system uses liquid sodium hypochlorite and, in accordance with domestic water quality standards, typically operates at a dosage of 1–2 ppm. For this project, an advanced flow‑rate‑controlled sodium hypochlorite dosing unit is employed, with a maximum dosing rate of 100 g/h and the ability to adjust output within a range of 10% to 100% based on changes in flow rate.

Sodium hypochlorite solution preparation: Commercial sodium hypochlorite stock solution has a purity of 10%. To ensure accurate dosing and prevent crystallization, we dilute it to a 1% sodium hypochlorite solution, using a ratio of 1 part stock solution to 9 parts water. The equipment’s chemical tank has a capacity of 200 L, so we add 20 kg of the solution and 180 kg of water, yielding a total of 200 kg of solution. Assuming a density of 1 for the sodium hypochlorite solution, 1 liter equals 1 kilogram.

Calculation of sodium hypochlorite dosage: In water treatment, the target concentration of sodium hypochlorite (effective chlorine) is 0.3 mg/L, equivalent to 0.3 g/ton, to ensure complete elimination of bacteria and microorganisms and compliance with potable water standards. With an average hourly treatment capacity of 70 tons of well water, the required hourly dose of pure sodium hypochlorite (effective chlorine) is: 70 t/h × 0.3 g/t = 21 g/h. Accordingly, the hourly dose of a 1% sodium hypochlorite solution is: 21 g ÷ 1% = 2,100 g = 2.1 kg.

Duration of a single container of disinfectant: With a 200‑kg container and an addition rate of 2.1 kg per hour, the total usage time is 200 kg ÷ 2.1 kg/hour = 95 hours. Assuming an average daily consumption of 12 hours, 95 ÷ 12 ≈ 7.8 days. In other words, on average, a 200‑kg container of sodium hypochlorite solution will be used up in just under one week.
